Frequently Asked Questions
1. About SBC Sports Therapy
Q: What makes SBC Sports Therapy different from other clinics?
A: We combine hands-on therapy with advanced clinical knowledge from urgent and primary care. This means you get the best of both sports therapy and medical expertise.
Q: Do you only treat injuries, or can you help with prevention too?
A: We do both. Many clients see us before injuries occur — to improve movement, reduce muscle tightness, and build resilience. Prevention is a key part of sports therapy.
Q: Can you work alongside my doctor or physiotherapist?
A: Yes. We’re happy to liaise with your GP, physio, or other healthcare providers to ensure you get the best possible care.
Q: Who do you work with?
A: We work with everyone — from athletes to gym-goers and people with everyday aches, pains, or medical conditions. You don’t need to be an athlete to benefit from sports therapy.
Q: What is the difference between sports therapy and physiotherapy?
A: Sports therapy focuses on injury prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation with a hands-on and exercise-based approach, often tailored to active individuals. Physiotherapy may cover a broader range of conditions, including neurological and respiratory issues. Both aim to get you moving better and pain-free.
Q: Do I need a GP referral to book?
A: No. You can book directly with us — no referral needed.
Treatment & Services
Q: Do you offer rehabilitation programmes I can do at home?
A: Yes — we’ll design tailored exercise programmes with clear instructions that you can follow between sessions to speed up recovery.
Q: Do you use acupuncture or dry needling?
A: Yes, where appropriate. These techniques can help reduce pain, improve circulation, and relax muscle tension.
Q: Can I book IV therapy as a one-off, or do I need a course?
A: You can book a single session, but many clients choose a course of treatments for ongoing benefits. We’ll help you decide what’s best for your needs.
Q: Do you provide treatment for workplace or occupational injuries?
A: Absolutely. We often help clients dealing with back pain, repetitive strain, or posture issues caused by office work or manual jobs.
Q: What treatments do you offer?
A: We provide sports massage, manual therapy, acupuncture, injury rehabilitation, clinical assessment, IV vitamin therapy, and personalised exercise programmes.
Q: What is IV vitamin therapy?
A: IV vitamin therapy delivers vitamins and minerals directly into your bloodstream, supporting energy, recovery, immunity, and overall wellness.
Q: Is sports massage only for athletes?
A: Not at all. Sports massage helps anyone dealing with tension, muscle soreness, poor posture, or general aches and pains.
Q: Can you help with long-term injuries?
A: Yes. Whether it’s a sports-related injury, post-surgery recovery, or a chronic issue, we’ll create a tailored rehabilitation plan to support your recovery.
Your Appoitment
Q: Do I need to bring anything with me?
A: Just yourself, and if you have any medical reports, scans, or GP letters related to your injury, feel free to bring them along.
Q: Can I train or exercise after my session?
A: It depends on the treatment. For example, after sports massage you may feel looser and can train lightly, but after acupuncture or heavy rehab you may need rest. We’ll advise you each time.
Q: How many sessions will I need?
A: It varies depending on your goals. Generally in order to properly rehab an injury it will take a number of weeks.
Q: Can I request a male or female therapist?
A: At the moment, sessions are provided by our male therapist. If you’d feel more comfortable with a chaperone, you’re welcome to bring one
Q: What should I expect at my first session?
A: We’ll start with a detailed consultation and assessment, discuss your goals, and then begin treatment or create a plan.
Q: What should I wear?
A: Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area we’re treating (e.g., shorts for leg injuries, vest/loose top for shoulder/back issues).
Q: Will the treatment be painful?
A: Some techniques (like deep tissue massage or acupuncture) may feel slightly uncomfortable, but it should never be unbearable. We’ll always work within your comfort level.
